You will ask: Why is Barcelona the best city to live in Spain? If you keep reading, you will discover:

Size. Barcelona is a city that, without being a mega city, has a wide range of services. It doesn’t lack anything. Well, yes, from time to time, the missing taxi’s at night, but you can live without them. It’s comfortable for you to move around as it has an extensive infrastructure of public transport and bike paths that makes it a very friendly city for both pedestrians and people who want to avoid the car.

Weather: I did not know whether to put it first or second. The climate of Barcelona is wonderful, with very mild winters in which we barely use the umbrellas and fantastic summers with little thermal oscillation due to its Mediterranean situation. We enjoy about more than 2000 hours of sun a year, making those who come from cold and wet climates hooked up to Barcelona like a junkie.

Sea and mountain: No, this is not the name of a rice dish: Barcelona has nothing less than 7 metropolitan beaches. Amazing!

Few cities in the world has the quality of the beaches of Barcelona that, due to the climate, we can use them all year round. Even on sunny winter days it is possible to practice many sports on the beach or simply do terrazing, our favorite sport.

But in case this doesn’t seem enough and you’re a fan of mountain sports, we have the Pyrenees at an hour’s drive. So, without being the Alps, you can enjoy more than 500 skiable kilometers in less than 2 hours by car from Barcelona. For mountain lovers in general, there is a wide range of hiking trails that go from the GR Transpirenaica to local routes to enjoy in the day.

Communications:This is a very important point. Barcelona has one of the most modern and busy airports in Europe, offering a wide range of flights at very competitive prices. It’s a city communicated to the world. It also has the High Speed train that joins it with Madrid in just over 2 hours. It has a wide network of commuter and medium distance trains  that makes the option of not needing a car a reality.

Barcelona: the best city to live in Spain and (of Europe)

Labor Offer: Barcelona is the 5th European technology-based hub. It has Barcelona Tech City, which represents more than 500 companies which employ some 20,000 people. It is one of the meccas of the entrepreneurs of Industry 4.0. In fact, this is linked to the important fairs of the sector that come together in Barcelona as the Mobile World Congress, 4YFN, eShow or Barcelona Industry Week.
Barcelona leads in Spain the attraction of investments with 282 million euros – 56% of the total invested in Spain. It also has a very important position in the world ranking at Fashion and Creation level. The pharmaceutical industry in the province of Barcelona represents almost half of the total turnover of Spain, currently competing for the headquarters of the European Medicine Agency.

Multiculturality: With an important reputation as a commercial place of the Mediterranean, Barcelona has historically been a meeting point for cultures.
To check the cosmopolitan aspect of Barcelona, you just have to walk around its historic neighbourhoods like El Born, Gotic or El Raval and observe that cultural diversity that coexists between avant-garde and diversity.

Educative offer: The wide range of international schools and the high quality of their educational project makes Barcelona a very attractive destination when there are school children in the family. It also has some of the best masters and postgraduates in prestigious business schools of global recognition such as Esade or IESE.

Architecture: What remains to be noted in this section that is not global recognition? The Sagrada Familia is the most visited church in Europe after St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. But Barcelona is more than the Basilica: its modernist buildings such as La Pedrera, Casa Batllo or Casa Mila, the Palau de la Música, the innumerable mansions. The Gothic and Neo-Gothic styles carry the entire Ciutat Vella history, as the church of Santa María del Mar. A paradise for any lover of architecture and history.

Culture and Leisure: Of course, a city that pretends to be the best in the world has nothing to envy to any capital city in the world. Countless museums, all of them with a varied exhibition of collections that satisfy the elderly and the little ones. Theaters, concerts of all kinds, its festivals and local traditions such as those of Gracia neighbourhood or La Merce and music festivals, some of them of great international scopes such as Sonar or Primavera Sound.

Gastronomy: Gastronomy in Barcelona offers a range of choices for all tastes and for all budgets. From the restaurants of famous international chefs with Michelin stars to taverns where you can enjoy the warm atmosphere of the plain village. Due to its cultural diversity, it also has the same gastronomic diversity: Thai, Japanese, Peruvian, Argentine, Italian, Vietnamese, whatever you want. The latest trend that is raging in Barcelona is the vegan: there are endless restaurants where vegans can share a nice meal with their friends without being limited to a plate of salad. Although the best are still those vermouths at noon with a few drinks that end at 5 o’clock in the afternoon.

The number of reasons, which make Barcelona the best city to live in Spain, are endless. So do not think more and come to Barcelona!
